LOBA POETRY SERIES
Monthly Poet Features & Open Mic
Saturday, April 19 at 3 PM
Join Ukiah Branch Library staff as we host poetry events in-person on the third Saturday of each month at 3 p.m. This free event is open to both teens and adults. All are invited to share poems in any form or style or just listen to others. On April 19 we welcome MK Chavez.
MK Chavez is an Afro-Latinx writer and educator. She is the author of “Mothermorphosis,” “Dear Animal” (Nomadic Press), and the lyric essay chapbook, “A Brief History of the Selfie.” Chavez curates the reading series Lyrics & Dirges and is co-director of the Berkeley Poetry Festival. She is a recipient of the Alameda County Arts Leadership Award, the PEN Oakland Josephine Miles Award, and the 2021 San Francisco Foundation/Nomadic Press literary award. Her most recent publications can be found in the Academy of American Poets Poem-A-Day series and at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco with the Voice of Trees projects. She teaches writing and is a literary coach through Ouroboros Writing Lab.

Únase al personal de la biblioteca de Ukiah mientras organizamos eventos de poesía en persona el tercer sábado de casa mes a las 3:00 p.m. Este evento gratuito está abierto para adolesentes y adultos: todos están invitados a compartir poemas en cualquier forma o estilo, o simplemente escuchar a otros. El 19 de abril de 2025, le damos la bienvenida a MK Chavez.
MK Chavez es escritora y educadora afrolatina. Es autora de Mothermorphosis y Dear Animal (Nomadic Press), así como del libro de ensayo lírico "A Brief History of the Selfie". Chavez es la comisaria de la serie de lecturas "Lyrics & Dirges" y codirectora del Festival de Poesía de Berkeley. Recibió el Premio al Liderazgo Artístico del Condado de Alameda, el Premio Josephine Miles de PEN Oakland y el premio literario de la Fundación San Francisco/Nomadic Press 2021.
