 Friday March 13th, 6:45 PM: "A Radical Thread" is a feature documentary that follows the remarkable San Juan Ridge community in California’s Sierra Foothills—originally shaped in part by poet Gary Snyder’s back-to-the-land ethos—and the massive tapestry they’ve been stitching for nearly two decades to chronicle 50+ years of communal life, environmental activism, and sustainable living. Through hundreds of tiny stitches in over eighty feet of embroidered panels, the tapestry becomes a living history of their struggles and triumphs—from resisting mining and logging to confronting climate-driven wildfires—while elders and new generations share values of cooperation, stewardship, and resilience. The film weaves Snyder’s archival and current reflections with the voices of local makers, storytellers, and tribal representatives, capturing a community’s radical commitment to art, land, and legacy. The Documentary Film Series runs from winter through spring.  Films usually show the second Friday of the month fall through spring, at 7 p.m., in the Community Room at the Library Commons.  Our ongoing series features award-winning films that explore sustainability, social justice, environmental challenges, and stories of hope and resilience from around the world. Our goal is to spark dialogue, deepen understanding, and build a more informed, connected community. Doors open at 6:45 PM.
